Saturday, May 29 12h UT36N35 020W09 Cap 90Speed 1 knot! Arghhhh Water temperature: 17.9880C Salinity: 36 256 Hello everybody, Following a struggle, a sleepless night and a few surprises we finally arrived in the Mediterranean. Yeeeepa! Once past the Strait of Gibraltar with the help of currents, a strong wind from the west led to our exit from the Alboran Sea. The Alboran Sea is a sea very special at the junction of the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, the link being from the Strait of Gibraltar, its waters are very special and wash the coasts of Algeria, Morocco and Spain. Its rich marine biodiversity and ecosystems are closely related to oceanographic conditions specific to the region and the presence of various geomorphic units including volcanic formations and canyons. It is also the only way for many species that migrate between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean for various reasons such as cetaceans, marine turtles, seabirds and plankton and pelagic species. At the same time, the Alboran Sea is traversed by cargo ships carrying many goods, including oil and gas in and out of the Mediterranean (about 80,000 per year through the Strait of Gibraltar) and passenger transport and goods between the northern and southern shores. This threat, urbanization and industrialization of the coast, particularly the northern part, puts great pressure on resources and natural processes. There is talk a « motorways of the sea »!! Returning to navigation: White day, windless day .... Since yesterday afternoon, someone cut the fans, we went from 40 knots to 3 knots of wind. Helpppp! Lol If you want to help I ask you to do a little wind dance for me ... Well anyway I'm not complaining, since two days the nights are great with a full moon, wonderful. And this morning, small dolphins, The Stenella coeruleoalba wich have the distinction of not measuring more than 2 meters are playing around me. Another 600 miles to go and we are in Monaco! ))) Tomorrow for more news, 4myplanet & Alexia

Sunday, May 23 00H 39N34 27 °W09 Course 103 ° Speed 10.3 knotsWater temperature: 16,940 ° C Salinity: 36 987Hello Earthlings! Exceptional visibility delighted me an unexpected sight, the Acores islands ! While yesterday passing 15nm off Corvo I was resigned to not seeing her, she appeared abeam 4myplanet at 1900 GMT. Then this morning at 40 nautical miles I saw island of Graciosa and at the moment I see Tercera. I will talk again of those island in the middle of the Atlantic. Firstly the island of Pico, a little further south of Graciosa is considered the "Mont Blanc" of Portugal. It culminates at 2351 meters dominated by a volcano, making it the highest mountain in the country. Its area is 444.8 km2 and has a population of 15,500. Its length is 42 km and a width of 15.2 km. Next is the island of Faial, prime stop for sailors. At the port of Horta, you can see the drawings of sailors along the jetty that marked their passage with a painting, a sign or an exvoto representing their ship. Boats offers whale watching to tourists. Nearby I have not seen whales yet, but I scan the horizon for hours ... I end with the island of Graciosa. It is the northernmost islands of the central group. There is a rare volcanic formation: the Furna do Enxofre ("Cave of sulfur"), a volcanic cave in the caldera. Its mild climate is the least rainfall of all the Azores. Like its neighboring core group it was discovered by navigators who explored the Atlantic in the fifteenth century. This island was declared in September 2007 a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. His landscapes are rich and varied and has a typical Micronesia Forest. Other than that aboard 4myplanet time is delicious, except some speed bumps were planted in the middle of the road last night (only 5knds wind) I'm enjoying the sunshine and calm seas. The Azores current whose strength is 0.5 knots pushed us a little faster in the right direction. The weather should be back less cool by tomorrow evening. We'll see! In the meantime I think of my arrival in meditating on these words of Albert Camus: "Real generosity toward the future is to give everything to what is present". A meditation after all, with music on the bridge! :)
I wish you a beautiful day. 4myplanet & Alexia PS: the kids who write to my address on board, I have no emails from the board, hence my silence for three days. Write to Cette adresse email est protégée contre les robots des spammeurs, vous devez activer Javascript pour la voir. and I will answer as soon as possible. Friday, May 21 13h UT 40N27 W20 32 ° Cap 100 ° Speed 7.9 knotsWater temperature: 16,508 ° C Salinity: 36 096Hello We are now 70 nautical miles of The islands of Corvo and Flores, West sentinels of the Azores. The first island Corvo described by the Prince Albert 1st is "a point on the sea, an extinct volcano, with sheer walls and green hills. A lake near his head into the crater silent, gives seabirds tired of storms, peace we're all looking after a large disturbance. " I like to turn me into a bird and fly over these islands. With 4myplanet we should passé dozen miles of Corvo in late afternoon but even if the visibility is good I am not sure to see it. To return to the Prince Albert 1st, he was one of the first oceanographer Sailor interested in the marine and terrestrial biodiversity of these islands. He spent so many times with his first boat, the schooner Hirondelle “Swallow”, together with scientists to explore and report of undiscovered species on the continent. South of 4myplanet is a sandbar called "Princess Alice Bank, name of the second vessel of this visionary sailor. 4myplanète is not equipped as was the Hirondelle, however, I continue my solo collection for observers of the ocean. Yesterday two new bottles of sea water have been kept for observers of the ocean program Coriolis and the IAEA in Monaco. The thermosalinograph works well since New York and we have exceeded one million measurements of temperature and salinity of the water surface. Navigation is going well for the moment the lack of wind expected does not hit us, it would meen may be Aeolus is positive that we’ll back quickly in Monaco? The weather warms up, and I'm excited when I see the on the computer screen the Portugal contour and the appearance of the Strait of Gibraltar that we went in a week ... If Aeolus willing, lol! For those who want to learn more about the explorations of Prince Albert 1st I recommend first a visit to the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, or if you live too far, reading the "Memoirs of a sailor”. At the end of the book he describes these expeditions in the Artic regions, it gives me ideas for future trips with 4myplanet... Tomorrow and take care! 4myplanet & Alexia
Wednesday, May 19th 20h 39N58 41 °W05 Cap 80 ° Speed 9.5 knotsWater temperature: 14,596 ° C Salinity: 35, 276Hello! Welcome aboard 4myplanet! We're at 450 nautical miles north of the Azores, the worst of the weather is behind us for at least a week ahead youhouou! We're going to start breathing normally with 4myplanet, I'm going to put a quick shine and fix the damage of recent days then may be a chance to take a shower! You do not have any pictures today because the only way to get out of the camera (the camera is on prolonged strike since NYC) is to use my Mac who does not love neither humidity or shock, so we will wait for tomorrow. Returning to the Azores, it is incredibly beautiful islands are the subject of call for ocean navigators, like Columbus, on returning from his first voyage of the new world stopped to rest he and his crew just before his triumphant return to Spain. Well it gives me ideas, the last time I went there with my father, ten years ago that... Just kidding, I do not stop I cannot wait to return to the Mediterranean Sea! The Azores are a group of Portuguese islands which are located in the Atlantic Ocean, about 1500 km west of Lisbon, as far north-west of Morocco, and 3900 km to the east coast of America North. Like all island territories, the Azores are affected by phenomena of biological invasion following the introduction of alien species. Their position between two continents, these islands make interesting point of view of ecological phenomena which isolate (exacerbated by natural or man-made infrastructure) and their relationships with European, African and American biomes, but such studies are complicated by the number of species introduced (intentionally or accidentally) by man, and their effects on local ecosystems, up to the extinction of species. Some species have been detailed studies that will help better measure the impact of human activities on biodiversity islands. This applies, for example with spiders. Speaking of spiders I finally read that industries are becoming interested in understanding the nature and embarked on the adventure of bio mimicry. With the spider they are trying to manufacture resistant materials, silk is that it synthesizes equal weight three times stronger than steel cable! Who knows my next boat will perhaps have shrouds made by a spider! lol Jokes aside it is a land of conquest, which could give an extra chance to kind of exist in the human heart. While many actions are carried out in the Biodiversity Action field is vast and with many pitfalls. Fortunately there are organizations like the Foundation Prince Albert II of Monaco (4myplanet partner) who invest and work with many projects and organizations to protect biodiversity. Congratulations to you! This is it straight from4myplanet in the Atlantic Ocean, I now cut the antenna! Tomorrow in words and pictures! 4myplanet & Alexia
Tuesday, May 18th 20h UTC 38N37 45 ° W31 Cap 70 ° Speed 9 knotsWater temperature: 14,740 ° C Salinity: 35 049Hello! Welcome aboard 4myplanet! I hope you sleep well at night .... because for me it's not really true
. The wind blowing over 30 knots, I decided to take the third reef in the main sail to avoid breaking anything, especially the battens during the jibe. I look up, look at my mainsail ... too late! Already exhausted by the energy it took me to successfully reef the main and a little worried about the state of the battens, a maelstrom of wind and waves assail 4myplanet at dark: The Storm! From daybreak I undertake all repair, it took me at least two hours and after 24 hours of fighting I'm really tired, but 4myplanet is now clean and ready for normal operation. Three things I enjoyed last night: For the rest of the day I rested well except that the wind was a bit sarcastic and teasing me changing direction and strength constantly. Tomorrow for more news? 4myplanet & Alexia
Monday, May 17 20h UT 38N26 49 ° W53 Cap 110 ° Speed 11 knotsWater temperature: 18,212 ° C Salinity: 36 516Hello everybody! Welcome aboard 4myplanet! The atmosphere is always very sporty and humid with the passage of a second deep low in my North. The wind is weaker than during the first storm and we still sail in the right direction. 4myplanet is 888 nautical miles north of the Azores, and I target Flores island as the passage south of the archipelago seems impossible because it is close to the famous Azores High wich is approaching its summer position and there would be too little wind for 4myplanet. All is well onboard. I took advantage of a lull when the wind drop down to 20 knots to clean the deck. It was time, there were ropes in disorder everywhere! I was forced to untangle the third reef which had managed to tangle around the boom. I took the opportunity to eat a bit too:) At the next lull, I'll take a shower! My dream! ... Not to the lull, lol. I received news of Mr. Tiercelin who left one day before me to try to beat the record New York-Lizard whir his boat DCNS. He came through the Storm and had up to 90 knots of wind, forcing him to spend several hours drifting with no sails. Wow ! And I am happy to know that he and his boat are fine, it's an experienced sailor:) No great revelation today or meetings.
I remain focused on navigation and take care of 4myplanet because the road is still long before reaching Monaco a little less than 3,000 nautical miles to go.

Hello Earthlings! 4myplanet & Alexia
Saturday, May 15 16h GMT 38°N42 58°W52 Cap 124° Speed 10.5 knotsWater temperature: 20,567 ° C Salinity: 36 550Hello! Tonight it will be "Scary atmosphere" aboard 4myplanet! A deep low is just above us in my North and it must bring us Southwest winds 35 to 50 knots (100 km/h). MeteoStrategy kindly advised me to come down south to avoid the strongest winds and waves. That night we had some wind hole on the road (no wind), but a strong current (Gulfstream), up to 5 knots allowed me to progress on the course I want. I am preparing to fight, harnesses, heavy weather gear, storing everything that could fall into the boat and check all the key points. As I have never tested the staysail in 50 knots then i decided to drop before the wind and the night at 18h GMT. My third reef is ready to reduce the size of the mainsail. All this may seem scary, but do not worry I'm ready! To talk about something other than the weather. My software to send the pictures is down, so no pictures today, I'll fix it back tomorrow. Except that 270 nautical miles in my north there is an island shaped like a moon crescent named : Sand island. This island is protected and it is a migratory bird sanctuary since 1977. Sand Island is a 38km long sandbar crescent shaped , but never larger than 2 km. It is covered with grass and low vegetation. It is believed that it was formed from large quantities of sand and gravel deposited on the continental shelf at the end of the last ice age. The shape of the island is constantly changing due to high winds and storms. Sand Island is home to about 250 wild horses, protected from human influence. The origin of these animals is unknown but one theory says it is common descendants of horses confiscated from Acadians during their expulsion and abandoned on the island by Thomas Hancock, a Boston merchant. The Sand island also has several bird colonies, Arctic Sterns and a subspecies of Savannah Sparrow is endemic to the island (Passerculus sandwichensis princeps). Harbor seals and gray seals breed. A species of freshwater sponge, Heteromeyenia Macoun, is endogenous to the ponds of the island. Amazing is not it? " Have a good day and I go to prepare my restless night. Happy at sea:)
Last night I had the right to a magnificent sunset and during the day the sky is clear blue for last 36 hours. It's good for morale, as compared to the rain and gray skies of departure. The thermosalinogarphe is running and resume sending data every 8 seconds and I resume my duties as collector of information for scientists today by taking a bottle of water for Marine Studies Laboratory of IAEA Monaco and another for the program CORIOLIS conducted by IFREMER. The bottles for this purpose have been brought to New York.Adaptation to life at sea was made faster for the last leg. It's probably because I stopped only 5 days with 4myplanet.Suddenly I eat properly, I kept the system of American breakfast cereal, bacon & eggs. After that I only eat fruits until night! LolThe play list of the moment is "a strange life," the soundtrack of "Everything that shines" in loop on 4mylanet!And yesterday evening I spend time to look this incredible movie : Avatar! Wow!Where does stop the fiction in this film so close to reality? "I wish you a beautiful day and tomorrow for more news.4myplanet & Alexia

Wednesday, May 12 06hTU 40N17 73 ° W Course 112 ° Speed 9 knotsHello, Welcome aboard 4myplanet! We departed New York at 19h local. It was not an easy task, and Captain Jack's tug boss has yet secured 4myplanet out its place in the heart of Gateway Marina. Former U.S. Navy is mastering his motorboat perfectly and it is no coincidence that all the monohulls and multihulls comming in NYC for Atlantic records call on him. This flash Escale, for us was a kind of record. With JMB we managed to get the boat ready for this last voyage of the first 4myplanet solo tour in just five days. Minor repairs, plugging leaks, complete check of the rig, diving to see if the shock that took my propeler did not hurt other more sensitive issues such as the canting keel or rudder (Phew nothing serious!), electrical investigations, food, etc.. Good job! NYC will be in my memory forever for these funny episodes of navigation on the arrival and departure in tow, a very good meeting with Maguy Maccario Doyle the Consul of Monaco in NYC and her team, and unforgettable encounters like Captain Jack and his assistants true cowboy of the sea, without forgetting the good time spent with Doug Houghton Chairman of Current Corporation I met with great pleasure in the North Cove Marina. On that occasion we were able to discuss in my daily use on a sailboat of their camera Night Navigator. Since 19h I am sailing under a 1reef and staysail (small headsail) to remain manoeuvrable in the shallows of the bay of New York and the cargo passage. At the moment I am writing I am almost out but still fears about fishing traps unlit at night .... It is very very cold and rainy. I am happy to go for this new navigation and restart the thermosalinograph for océan observers as Coriolis Ifremer and Noaa. The program to me is crossing the North Atlantic more than 3,500 miles to join Monaco as I'd target June 5. The kids, I think of you and shall send you some nice pictures as soon as possible. Tomorrow for more news at sea Kisssssssss of 4myplanet & Alexia
